CHAPTER 7:

Set Plays to score Out-of-Bounds SIDELINE

Below is a list of all of the plays in CHAPTER 7. I've already defined my opinion of the 'Best' of the Best for you to review first since there are so many effective sets included in the complete set. You will find a short description of each play below with a link taking you to an example of a play looking much like the quality of what you will receive with your order. Remember, just about every set play has multiple options, which makes them so diffcult to defend. These plays were designed to make opponents pay for playing good defense. I can't emphasize the importance of good sharp execution including everything from timing, floor spacing, good solid picks, mis-directing and v-cutting off of those picks, crisp passes, to receiving the passing ready to pull the trigger for the uncontested shot. Review the descriptions below and look at the link Now or Shandu to see a sample play.

BOX

BOX is a great set where the inbounder has two options for entering the pass and off of each the court takes on a bunch of picks and movement that always gets us a high percentage shot extremely quick.  Timing and floor spacing is critical to getting a quick good look upon entering the ball inbounds.

DIAMOND

DIAMOND is an EXCELLENT extremely well designed play which gets the defense to extend from sideline to sideline which sets up the floor for yet another lob.

BLACK

BLACK  is an excellent play against a man-to-man defense along the sideline.  Patience and good timing is critical for this play to be successful.  The pass from your shooting guard (2) to your point guard (1) to your athletic swing man (3) are going to happen quickly.   Work on the timing in practice and you'll find this extremely difficult to defend because the back pick from your post player (5) happens suddenly.

ORANGE (Score)

“ORANGE” is ran when you have the ball at 1/2 court or 3/4 court and you have a lead and the time is in your favor. The defense NEEDS the basketball. You know the opponent is going to be denying everywhere. “Orange” will break your opponents back.  YOU WILL GET A LAY-UP -or- A DUNK.

WHITE (Safe)

“WHITE” is ran out of the same ‘line’ set as the previous play “ORANGE” when we got that quick score. This time however, we need to get the ball and secure the possession. After the ball is in bounded we’ll set up and run a set play or a motion offense or even a delay game depending on the situation. Anyway, this is a safe play with multiple options to get the ball in bounds and without a turnover.

EXECUTE

“EXECUTE” is a great play when you need that game tying or winning 3-pointer.  Especially when the defense has to protect against the trey.  This play is the perfect set and you need a minimum of  :04 seconds on the clock at half court to run the play successfully to get the shot off.
